The beauty Gods have spoken and granted us this little gem of an advent calendar.
At 23 years old I really am still just a big kid at heart, I love christmas and everything about it so as soon as December begins I'm all over advent like a kid in a sweet store (literally, I have about 5 chocolate calendars).
This year however, I also treated myself to a more 'grown up' offering, the Enchanted Spells advent calendar from Selfridges. I can't thank Rose (you really must visit her blog Mixed Gems) from Selfridges enough for sorting out this order for me. When are we going to get a store in Leeds please!?
I mean it when I say 'a little bit of christmas every day' here. These 24 doors hide little treats from Shu Uemura, Lancome, Viktor & Rolf, Yves Saint Laurent, Giorgio Armani, Kiehl's, Diesel and Urban Decay.
So what was behind door number 1 I hear you ask?
A true classic was nestled behind this window ...
...Opium!
Now, just to warn you, I'm no perfume expert, I just know what I like and what I don't.
Personally I would usually opt for ridiculously sweet and fruity scents (Escada never fail to disappoint in this department, along with my new love; Armani Si), so this is a wonderful chance to try something new. Initially, I did feel as though I was playing dress up and had raided my mothers vanity unit; an understandable consequence of a scent that's been around for so long in one form or another. Throughout the day though it has really grown on me. A far cry from my usual perfumes of choice but sometimes it's nice to have a change.
If you haven't tried opium before, it is what I would describe as a more mature perfume. Whilst still having quite a fresh scent, I also smell more woody notes. As with any fragrance it develops throughout the day and the sweeter notes really begin to come through.
Overall not a bad start to december!
Remember that job interview I told you guys about? Well I got it! I start tomorrow, so whilst my intention is to blog daily about my advent wonders I can't make any promises. Just watch this space.
